Of all the things I love about Edinburgh, which this sad neglected blog doesn’t include enough of, the accents are up there. In Canada every sounds basically the same. We have different voices but not different tones and sounds. Here a order placed at a coffee shop is a musical experience as two different accents interact. I’m at the point where I mostly understand everything — can’t say a hundred per cent but I’ve even conversed with Glaswegians so that’s something. That’s one of the things that has always drawn me to the UK. Just listening to people talk is delightful.
